I should post a label somewhere disavowing any claim to authority or comprehensiveness…

The following is a half assed defense of my non-choices:
I've been leaving off some obvious records (Beatles, Stones, Dylan, etc.) like Exile, because you don't need me to tell you that they're good. Exile is an album I really like but just can't bring myself to love more than, say, Aftermath, Beggar's Banquet, etc. I have fond memories of listening to it, along with School's Out, on my friend's stoop. I never got a copy of the latter and so I didn't feel I could comment on it.

Another type of exclusion: records that were very popular in my crowd at the time. I imagine that I’m writing to them, and so don't need to tell them about Eat A Peach, whose "Mountain Jam" might still be my very favorite piece of music, or Jackson Browne , another all time favorite. And how would you know that, you might ask? You got me there.

Then we get to the stuff that I liked at the time but to me hasn't worn that well like Thick as a Brick (still good, though) and Trilogy (not so much, but I'm listening to it again right now to be sure). And prog rock in general, which I find kind of pretentious. But hey, that's me. But yes, Close to the Edge still sounds good. I just wish I had a clue what the lyrics meant… I don't have Foxtrot - still trying to get my head around The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and Live. But I'll keep an eye out for it.

And WNEW. Someday I'll write a post about my initial love for - but eventual disillusion with - them.

Thanks for your comments. It sounds like you were just getting started.
